Diary of Design
A blog centered around graphic design, in an attempt to surround myself (and maybe others) with beautiful, inspiring art.
  1. Bouwen Typeface Kit by Neal Fletcher

A modular construction set that explores and demonstrates the construction of letter forms. In theory the main characteristics of a typeface come from between 5-10 letters, taking those letters and using them as a template you should be able to draw the rest of your typeface. This project was a way of demonstrating that theory in a physical sense in the form of a construction set, aimed at kids and type nerds alike. The set consists of 20 perspex pieces, from those 20 pieces it is possible to construct every letter (A-Z) uppercase and lowercase, numerals and punctuation on pegboard sheets.

I chose to house the perspex pieces inside a toolbox replicating the look and feel of a construction set, allowing children to construct letters freely but still with the restriction of the dotted grid.
